1. Their Eyes Were Watching God

Pg. 1 “...dreams are mocked to death by time. That is the life of men.” 


The first paragraph described a dreams as a man - to sail aboard a ship. The ship can be seen figuratively as to just merely wanting to explore the world or to see what the world has to offer. However, in this sentence, it is told that men lose their dream as time comes and takes their lives. The last sentence can be a foreshadow.
